Permalinks are the permanent URLs of your posts, pages, categories, and other archive pages on your website. These URLs are permanent and help to create a URL structure that is easy for both humans and search engines to understand and share.
Resetting permalinks rebuilds the link structure for WordPress. Often, this process must be performed after migrating a WordPress website, or when troubleshooting 404 errors on the pages of your site. Here we cover the steps to reset the permalink structure.

Reset Permalinks
- Log into the WordPress dashboard
- Navigate to Settings > Permalinks
- Make note of which permalink setting is currently selected and click the radio button next to one of the other options
NOTE: If you currently have Post name selected, select Plain.
TIP: If you are using a Custom Structure, copy the information from the text field so that you can paste it back later. - Click the Save Changes button
- Click the radio button next to the permalink option that was previously selected and click the Save Changes button again
NOTE: If you changed it from Post name to Plain in step 3, change it back to Post name.
