This article covers how to create a file from the File Manager in cPanel. cPanel allows files to be created through its web interface, rather than requiring you connect over FTP or SSH in order to create or make a new file.

Creating a File
- Log into cPanel
- Navigate to File Manager, located in the Files section
- Locate the document root of the domain that the file is being added to
- Click +File at the top left of the File Manager
- A pop up will appear to allow naming and placement of the file
NOTE: Being in the Document Root of the domain will auto fill the Placement of the location in File Manager and only the file name will need to be added. - Enter the New File Name
- Confirm the file location with the New file will be created in field
- Click Create New File to confirm
- A pop up will appear to allow naming and placement of the file
- The file will now be added
NOTE: If the file that is wanted is not seen it may be hidden. To show hidden files, click Settings on the top right of File Manger. Check- Show Hidden Files (dotfiles) - and then Save.
Edit the New File
- To edit your new file, right-click the file that needs to be edited and then click Edit
- Click Edit within the pop-up window
- The file will open in a New Window and can be edited
- When done editing click Save Changes at the top right of the page or the changes will not save
