Sometimes email clients, especially Outlook, will give an error like "The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified. The target principal name is incorrect. Do you want to continue using this server?". This is how to check if it's a valid error or bug.
The error message will appear as follows:
The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified. The target principal name is incorrect. Do you want to continue using this server?
Evaluating Potential SSL Error
- Find the server hostname you are connecting to in your settings in your mail client
- Use a site like SSL Shopper to check the SSL on the server
- If it shows a valid SSL with no warnings, it's just a bug and you can trust it
- If it doesn't pull an SSL or has warnings, review the warnings and resolve
- If you aren't sure how to resolve them, contact Support
