Here we discuss email sending issues and bounceback emails stating "Message Lines Too Long for Transport". Some email clients may not be configured to automatically wrap text in emails, and send an entire body of an email on a single line. This can cause an error on the receiving mail server resulting in a bounceback. The steps below explain how to configure Outlook to wrap text to correct the issue.
Configure Auto-Wrapping in Outlook
- Open Outlook
- Select the File menu
- Select Options
- Select the Mail settings
- Under Message format, set Automatically wrap text at character between 60-76
- Restart Outlook
NOTE: A similar setting may exist in other email clients, but the error seems to especially occur when using Outlook. If using another client, look for a Line Wrapping, Word Wrapping, or just Wrapping setting, typically under Format settings.
