Here we cover the steps to enable Spam Filters in your cPanel to cut down the amount of spam you have to deal with.
If you have never managed your own email before, the sheer volume of spam may shock you. That’s why cPanel comes pre-installed with Spam Filters powered by Apache SpamAssassin, one of the most powerful open-source email filtering systems available.
SpamAssassin provides a filter to classify email and block "spam" (unsolicited bulk email). It examines each message presented to it and assigns a score to indicate the likelihood that the email is spam. The system then uses that score to determine what to do with the message.

Enable SpamAssassin
- Log into cPanel
- Navigate to Spam Filters, located under the Email section
- Click the toggle next to Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam so that it turns blue
NOTE: This will apply a SPAM label to the header and subject of emails that SpamAssassin determines to be spam, based on the selected Spam Threshold Score. Use the below options to determinewhat the system should do with those emails. - Toggle on one or both of the following
- Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box): Moves all new email messages with a calculated spam score that meets or exceeds the Spam Threshold Score to a separate folder for you to review
NOTE: This will place spam emails in the Spam or Junk folder, as you would typically see with most mail providers. - Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete): Permanently deletes new emails with a calculated spam score that meets or exceeds the Auto-Delete Threshold Score
CAUTION: Emails deleted by the Auto-Delete function cannot be recovered. Due to the potential for legitimate emails to be deleted, it is recommended to use Spam Box instead of Auto-Delete. If using this feature, it is a good idea to set the Auto-Delete Threshold Score to a higher value to reduce the likelihood of important emails being permanently deleted.
