When a site does not resolve or shows a GoDaddy landing page, or some other registrar's landing page, the domain registration is usually past due.
This article will detail how to check for potential issues. In most cases, the registrar will need to be contacted.
Check Registration Status
- Check the
whois
information on the domain and check the Registry Expiry, Domain Status, and Last Updated Date
TIP: Thewhois
information on a domain can be retrieved from sites such as ICANN, who.is, and whois.com.
EXAMPLE:
- Registry Expiry indicates the domain's current expiration date
- Domain Status indicates the domain's status with the registrar and may alert to any potential issues
- Last Updated Date will display the last time the record information on
whois
was updated for the domain
- If the Registry Expiry date has already passed and the domain is not renewed, contact the registrar and process a renewal of the registration to bring the site back online
NOTE: GoDaddy will change the nameservers of a domain that needs to be renewed back to themselves (typically when auto-renewals fail).
IMPORTANT: Once the domain is renewed, allow 4-24 hours for DNS propagation. - If the Domain Status shows anything other than OK, contact the registrar and confirm the domain is in good standing if no renewal issues are visible
